Offer Promotional Codes to Fans of a Facebook Page

A very important marketing tool for attracting new clients to a company is offering discounts. Discounts can be obtained through the use of coupons as well as promotional codes.

Promotional codes can be applied during the online buying process. At the moment of payment many internet businesses offer users the chance to insert a code, made up of numbers and letters, in order to obtain a special discount. Thus, the use of promotional codes is part of online purchasing.

Here is the usual process in a promotional codes campaign:

  1. Define the type of discount you wish to apply.
  2. Define the target users who will benefit from this discount.
  3. Define the end-date of the discount.
  4. Create the list of promotional codes.
  5. Distribute the promotional codes.

How to create promotional codes with Easypromos

To create promotional codes with Easypromos you have to gain access to the promotion editing form by way of the control panel and set the following parameters:

  • Promotional codes: a text field for uploading all the promotional codes to be assigned to users who enter the promotion. The codes can be entered one to every line, or all in one block with each code separated by a comma. The codes will then be assigned to users in the same order as they are entered. This option is only available in the Premium and White Label versions of Easypromos.

  • Repetition of codes: check this box if you want to reassign the codes. If more users enter the promotion than there are codes available, the same numbers will be reassigned, starting with the first code that was introduced. This option is only available in the Premium and White label versions of Easypromos.

How can I show instructions for applying the promotional code?

You can show the instructions on how to use the discount code, so the user knows how to redeem the promotional code.

To add the instructions follow these steps:

1. Access the configurations of your promotion and go to “Coupons and promotional codes”.

2. You have a field named “Coupon instructions” to write the instructions on how to use and redeem the code.

When the users have completed the promotion and access the last screen, they will see a link with the name “Coupon instructions”. When they click on this link they will see the instructions.

Tip. You can use the final image to enhance the presentation of the promotional code. You can also use the final image to:

  • Intensify the value of the code.
  • Give key details, such as the validity, the type of discount and  your website URL.
  • Link the image to your website.

How can I give the option to print the promotional code?

If you want to offer a promotional code to your users to redeem at your physical store, you can offer the option to print the code directly with the Easypromos application. To configure this option, follow the steps below:

1. Access the configurations of your promotion and go to “Coupons and promotional codes”.

2. You have a field named “Download/print coupon and promotional code”. You can write the text of the print button, for example, “Print code”.

When the user has completed the promotion they will see a button with the option to print or download the promotional code, which they’ll be able to easily redeem at the store.

Tip: Use the final image to enhance the promotional code, so when the user prints the code this will come together with the final image you have uploaded at the application.

Furthermore, in Premium and White Label versions you’ll be able to link the final image to an external website, so when the user clicks on the final image, they will be redirected to the website you indicate, such as your company website.

Typical examples

Here we look at 3 of the most frequently used ways of applying promotional codes to a Facebook page with Easypromos:

1. I have one discount code that I wish to provide to all my fans.

Compatible with all versions of Easypromos [Basic – Premium – White Label]

In this case the administrator has a code, like “FB-FREE-SHIPPING”, which, if applied in the online store, can provide the user with free shipping. The administrator wishes to provide this promotion exclusively to fans.

For this the administrator should create an image which is 740px wide, of variable height, and which shows the code FB-FREE-SHIPPING. When the administrator sets up the promotion with Easypromos, he or she should upload this image in the “Final image” field of the promotion editing form.

All users who enter the promotion will be able to see the image of the coupon at the end of the entry process.

2. I have one discount code that I wish to provide to only 100 fans.

Compatible with all versions of Easypromos [Basic – Premium – White Label]

The administrator has a discount code that can be used on their webpage, as in the previous case, but this time only 100 users can benefit from the discount.

The process begins the same as before: upload the 740px-wide image in the “Final image” field of the promotion editing form. You can then use the “Maximum number of users” option in “Promotion properties” to limit the number to 100.

In this way we limit the promotion to 100 people and we make sure that the coupon will be seen no more than 100 times. Once 100 people have entered, the promotion will automatically close.

 

3. I have 100 different discount codes and wish to provide them to 100 fans.

Compatible only with the Premium and White Label versions of Easypromos

In this case the administrator has 100 different promotional codes. He or she wants to give these coupons to 100 users who must be fans of the Facebook page. This could be the case in a company that wishes to give 100 codes for purchases and discounts in the iTunes store, as iTunes works with promotional codes that are unique to each client.

To set up this type of promotion with Easypromos, you must first access the promotion editing form and upload 100 codes in the “Promotional codes” field. To enter the codes you can cut and paste them into the field one code to a line, or all in one block with each code separated by a comma.

One common practice is to close the promotion once these 100 codes have been assigned. In order to do this we use the “Maximum number of users” field and we set it at 100.

As the users enter the promotion they will each be assigned a promotional code. These codes are allocated in the same order as they were introduced in the editing form.

From the control panel, the administrator is able to download a list of registered users in a CSV document. Information available on users includes their registration details as well as their assigned promotional code.

Other possible cases with Easypromos

I’m offering an iPad to my fans in a prize draw and I want to reward the first 10 users who enter the draw with a different promotional code which will enable them to gain an additional discount in my store.

This case is very similar to example 3, in which you offer 10 codes, each with a different discount. In this case the grand prize of the draw is the iPad, which will be raffled off among all the participants, but you also want to reward the first 10 users who enter the promotion by giving them a promotional code for use in your store.

To set up this promotion you upload the 10 promotional codes in the editing form, but you don’t place any limit on the number of users who can enter. This way only the first 10 users who enter will see the assigned promotional code.

 

I have 3 discount codes, which offer 20%, 30% and 50% discounts, and I want to assign them randomly to all the fans that enter my promotion.

Here you are delivering very specific promotional codes to your users, but it can be done with Easypromos. You have various codes, offering different discounts, and you wish to randomly assign them among all the fans that enter your promotion.

In this case you upload the 3 promotional codes in the “Promotional codes” field in the editing form, and also check the “Repeat codes” box. This means that after the codes are assigned once they will be reassigned again and again in the same order, thus making sure that all the users who enter receive one of the three codes on offer.

In the CSV file information about all the registered users will be exported, including their assigned discount code.

I have just one discount code and I want to offer it to my fans in a prize draw.

In this case the prize of the promotion is the discount code itself. The best way to do this is to create a prize draw and ask for an email address in the discount form. Nothing is uploaded as the “Final image”, or in “Promotional codes”.

Once the winner has been determined by way of a lottery, the promotion administrator will send them the discount code by email.
