All online promotions have one thing in common: they all aim to attract as many participants as possible. This is why marketers put all their effort into promoting online campaigns, contests, and giveaways.
Social media is always a great medium for promoting any type of content, especially when you manage to convert anonymous followers into leads for your brand. But what happens with all the anonymous users that visit your website leaving no trace of identity behind? It’s quality traffic interested in your brand or product and that’s why it’s crucial to try and gather their details.
So what’s the best way to drive website traffic to your online promotion? We say promoting it with a pop-up widget on your website!

What is a pop-up widget and why use it?
The general idea behind pop-up widgets is to give users direct access to certain information or content, in this case, a digital promotion, game, contest, or giveaway. This means that every user who visits your website or blog will see the content you want them to see. By using pop-up widgets for your promotion you increase the chances of converting more visitors into participants and therefore leads. When users click on the promotion to participate in it, the widget opens the promotion in a new tab for an optimized user experience.
In the following example, you can see a pop-up widget inserted on the website of a skincare products brand. All visitors had a chance to participate in a Memory game in which users downloaded discount codes for their shopping.
Using widgets is therefore a great way of promoting your campaign and reaching more users. If you want to increase your chances of converting them into leads, offer an attractive incentive to all the participants. Remember that most online users don’t like sharing their contact information. But they’re all more likely to fill out your registration form if you give them a chance to win an appealing prize or if you send them out a discount code once they complete the registration process.
Here’s an example from Voom celebrating World Car Free Day. All website visitors saw a clickable pop-up that redirected them to the promotion landing page where they could enter their contact details for a chance to win an ultimate personal shopping cart.

How to configure a promotion pop-up widget
Configuring a promotion pop-up widget is really straightforward. All you have to do is customize your game, contest, quiz, or giveaway using our templates, or design your own campaign from scratch.
One thing you should bear in mind is that the “Welcome Page” of your promotion is the content shown on the pop-up; this makes the welcome page a very important part of your contest, giveaway, or game. Ensure you put enough effort into designing it by introducing less text than usual, presenting the incentive involved in the promotion, as well as adding an encouraging call to action button.
Then, once your promotion is ready disseminate, activate it and go to “Publication resources” on the Easypromos panel, and click on “Widget”.
You will then see a list of all the different widgets that you can configure for your campaign. Once you have selected the one you want, in this case, the pop-up widget, choose the delay and frequency; you can control how many seconds after arriving on your site the widget pops up and how often it pops up for repeat visitors. You then copy the code and insert it into the page you want the widget to be placed.
Pop-up widget in statistics
The one sure thing about digital promotions is that they should be easy to analyze, and if you’ve already organized promotions with Easypromos you will know that that’s the case for all our applications. After finalizing your promotion, you can access the statistics from the Easypromos panel. This is also where you can see the sources – where participants came from.
In the above example, you can see that more than 28% of participants came from the source “direct”, in this case, the widget embedded on the site.
And here you can see how Dalal Street Investment Journal organized a Spin the Wheel promotion for their Mansoon Offer. Each website visitor that viewed the homepage, had a chance to participate in the promotion.
